Vancleave RLDS

In 1977 the Church and the United States flags were contributed to the branch by the Older Adult class.

There is quite a difference in the $5.00 set aside for the district budget in 1927 and the district budget as it stands fifty years later:

$1,832.00      -- District Quota
392.00          -- Campground Assessment
$2,224.00      -- Total

We have been privileged to have many of the Missionaries of the World Church to hold series of meetings in Vancleave, One of the most recent series was held by Seventy Gilbert E. Remington, his third visit to us, from April 30 thru May 7, 1978. A few of his topics were: ‘Seek Ye First to Build Up the Kingdom of God’, ‘Christ Continues His Work’, ‘Christ Seeks Loyal Followers’,

The basement had been used for classrooms for a number of years, but the people of the branch wanted other classrooms and the basement opened up as a fellowship hall, as it was originally planned. New electrical wires were run and fluorescent lights were placed in the basement by Brother Arvis Taylor. Paneling was placed on the walls of the basement and a library was built around the air conditioning unit.

The plans for the new classrooms, which were to run parallel to the south-side of the church, were drawn up by Brother Fred Moe. The plans were to be presented to the branch and then sent to the World Church for approval and were approved.

August 6, 1978, the branch voted to start the new building under the direction of Brothers Homer McMillan and Fred Moe. On August 12, 1978, the foundation was dug and on August 21st, the cement was spoured. Many willing hands helped to get the project underway and continued to help throughout the phases of construction. The Lord has indeed blessed us with an abundance of talented people. Various ways were found to help, from picking up scraps keeping things cleann, to raising the walls and placing the roof on the building. Nourishment was supplied to the workers by those unable to labor at the site.

We were able to hold our first Sunday School Classes November 12, 1978. The only things needed to be done were to paint the eaves, put in the air conditioning unit and water fountain, bricking the building and installation of overhead.

As we see physical progress we could also see spiritual progres -- at the end of 1978 we had 218 members.

As the dawn of our centennial year began we continued to strive toward a Zionic community. Enthusiasm asbounded even with the hard labor that had been put forth to get the classrooms so near completed.

Janyary 4, 1979, the insulation was blown in the ceiling of the classroom, and the front doors of the sanctuary were replaced.
