Vancleave RLDS
Mrs. Mary Fuller came into the community in the early 1920’s, where she began the original Zion’s League, then known as "Religo". It was not, however, restricted to one age group, anyone could come. They met every Sunday afternoon about 3:30, and croquet was the favorite game to play.
James Yocum
James Columbus Yocum (J.C), an early Pastor of our Branch was baptized into church May 12, 1916.

During the 20’s many of the offices of the Branch were first recorded. These are but a few of the names of the diligent, patient workers that have come along during the hundred years of existence.

In June, 1921, Ardyce Cochran was elected branch clerk (which is now referred to as Branch Solicitor).

On May 7, 1922, Albert G. Miller was elected Pastor and J.C. Yocum and Simeon Cochran were elected his Counselors. Clydia Rogers was elected Secretary while John Rogers was elected Treasurer, November 17, 1923. The next year, John Rogers elected Janitor, William C. Yocum elected Pastor.

In January, 1926, was recorded the most complete business meeting:

During the 1927 Business Meeting it was agreed that the Branch pay a budget of $5.00 for district expenses. It was moved and seconded that they have a Branch Treasurer. Brother Will Yocum was elected to this position. ‘All church funds be turned into the hands of Church Treasurman.’ At that time the church had 108 members.

Sherwood Franklin Goff
Sherwood Franklin Goff.  Was ordained Deacon April 12, 1922, ordained Priest May 19, 1935.

The first mention of the office of Superintendent of Sunday School was on December 30, 1928. Francis Booker was elected to this office. Also in this meeting. Myrtle Jennings was sustained as President of the Women’s Department. Even then enthusiastic missionary work was prevalent with having a group of Saints organized in Biloxi, Mississippi, under the direction of Brother Sherwood Goff.

The first committee mentioned was one to raise funds for fencing the graveyard. The members of that committee were Sisters Susan McMillan, Edwina Goff, and Brother Donald Lee Cochran. During that year 8 members were transferred to the Mobile District. The Branch had 88 members on the role.

Teachers were needed throughout our history to teach the Fundamentals of our church but it was not until 1930 that any were recorded with Brother Will Miller being the Senior Teacher and Howard Jennings being the Junior Teacher.

December 27, 1931, the Young People’s Leader elected was Sister Hazel Barnes and Sister Myrtle Jennings was elected head of the Children’s Department on October 1, 1932.

Elder Albert G. Miller was again elected Pastor in 1932 and at that time we had 81 members on role.

In1935, a new facility was decided upon by the members of the church. The members thought the school building was not adequate enough to meet the changing times. A committee was elected to draft and collect means to build a new church. The committee consisted of Brother Howard E. Jennings, President and Treasurer, Brothers Mack Hawley and Scott Goff. The Saints tore down the school building using some of the lumber for the new facility. Between tearing down the old church and erecting the new one, Brother Mack and Sister Bertha Hawley opened their home for church services every Sunday. The homes of different members were opened for prayer meetings every Wednesday night.
